JavaPOS device support
The following information represents a partial list of the retail POS devices for which JavaPOS application support is available.
1. JavaPOS Device Support - Wincor-Nixdorf

The Linux-based, JavaPOS solution platform for retail point-of-sale (POS)
systems is designed for the Wincor Nixdorf BEETLE Family of POS systems. It
provides retailers with one of the most highly scalable and flexible
hardware/software platforms in the industry.
Wincor Nixdorf JavaPOS 1.7
For developing "pure Java" retail applications Wincor Nixdorf offers a
Wincor JavaPOS release based on the JavaPOS 1.7 specification (21 device
categories). Supported retail periphery includes:
- Wincor Nixdorf three-station matrix printer ND77/RS232
- Wincor Nixdorf single-station matrix printer ND210/RS232
- Wincor Nixdorf single-station thermal printer TH210/RS232+USB
- Wincor Nixdorf single-station thermal printer (two colors) TH220/RS232+USB

Note: EPSON printers must be driven via EPSON JavaPOS; it is possible

2. JavaPOS Device Support - IBM
Type in "JavaPOS" into the search engine on the IBM website Select: "IBM JavaPOS Overview"
IBM supports JavaPOS standards to deliver the "write once, run anywhere" promise.
IBM Retail Store Solutions made an important move toward delivering this goal when we ported a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) to our IBM 4690 Operating System. The next logical offering is JavaPOS device access that standardizes access to retail I/O through the IBM 4690 OS or Microsoft Windows operating systems. So, we recently announced a majority of our POS solutions now support the JavaPOS standard.

3. JavaPOS Device Support - Epson
Using JavaPOS allows applications to control functions specific to each device using a standard API. A flexible JavaPOS design enables the same application to run on many different types of computer systems and architectures, including stand-alone or network configurations.
You can thus use JavaPOS to build applications and drivers independently of platforms. This allows the deployment of flexible configurations using thin clients to meet widely varying system requirements.
Thin client configurations allow the construction of server-based systems that can reduce management costs for each terminal resultiong in considerable reduction of TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) over the entire system.

Star Micronics now supports the JavaPOS standard on multiple operating systems including Linux, Windows, Unix and Mac OS X; fulfilling the ideal of "write once, run anywhere." Our JavaPOS implemenation offers POSPrinter and CashDrawer support for all printer models produced by Star.
