Brief History
The JavaPOS committee was initiated by Sun, IBM, and NCR. Participation is open to interested companies.
To date, the following companies among others have been represented at JavaPOS meetings: JCPenny, Sears, Home Depot, NCR, IBM, Sun Microsystems, Epson, Wincor Nixdorf, Fujitsu, Datafit, MGV, Ultimate Technology, RCS, Triversity, 360Commerce, Star Micronics, BearingPoint and TPG.

| December 1 |
JavaPOS Technical Seminar #2 completed. The 35 companies represented included new members Fujitsu, NEC, JBCC, RSI and Star Micronics. |

JavaPOS v1.5 standard released for comments. |
| April 29 |

JavaPOS-13 is held in Chicago with IBM hosting. |

Publication of the Java Configuration Loader (JCL) API, for defining configuration, binding and loading of JavaPOS Device Services.
This API supercedes the earlier JSL/JSD API's within the JavaPOS standard. |
| January 19 |
JavaPOS was recognized as the official Java platform mapping of the UnifiedPOS standard of the National Retail Federation (NRF). |
| January 16-17 |
JavaPOS-12 was held in New York City, with the National Retail Federation (NRF) hosting. |

Java Device Driver Kit FCS Candidate 2 Release made available. |

| October 27-30 | JavaPOS-5 was held in Palo Alto, with Sun hosting. |
| September 16-18 | JavaPOS-4 was held in Raleigh, with IBM hosting. |
| August 11-13 | JavaPOS-3 was held in Atlanta, with NCR hosting. |
| June 9-12 | JavaPOS-2 was held in Palo Alto, with Sun hosting. |
| April 29-30 | The first industry-wide meeting, JavaPOS-1, was held in Raleigh,
with IBM hosting. |
| April 2 | The JavaPOS formation meeting was held in Atlanta, with IBM and NCR attending. |
