The JDDK (Java Driver Development Kit) is provided by Sun Microsystems. It is a platform independent, configurable software environment for device drivers, applications, and Java software packages. The JDDK allows a JavaPOS developer to create, test, package, deploy and manage JavaPOS Device Services without regard to underlying client or server operating systems. The JDDK itself does not require the Java Communications API (javax.comm).However, many JavaPOS Device Services will require javax.comm. The javax.comm package is available separately at and should run with the JDDK on any OS with JDK 1.1.6 support. The javax.comm package can either be installed in the JDK class path or with a business card in the JDDK. JDDK FCSc2 requires JDK 1.1.6 or greater, but it does not yet function correctly when using JDK 1.2 (Java 2). A future release of the JDDK will support Java2. This version has been successfully tested on Macintosh, Windows 95 and Solaris. However, it should also run unchanged on any operating system supporting JDK1.1.6 or above including Linux and OS/2, as well as JavaOS for Business and JavaOS for Consumers.
